Jim Foster won our virtual Summer Handicap 5 just ahead of Ilona Kriauzaite and Andrea Stehlikova. A number of runners ventured back onto the Common for a socially distanced run round, while the handicapers had the pleasure of both adjusting for terrain as well as expected speed. Well done to our 22 runners, both for running and also the stream of imaginative excuses for a large handicap (see the image). Results in the link.

Ed runs 100 miles (in 1 day) in lockdown
While most people were out in the park or common (socially distanced) on Bank Holiday Monday, Ed was running 100 miles. He says: The 100 mile race I usually run in May, from London to Oxford, was cancelled so when the organizers (Centurion Running) put on a virtual 100 mile as a replacement I knew … Read more
Gordon and Ellen win our May ‘virtual’ Second Sunday 5
95 runners and 29 saltires took part in our May ‘virtual’ VE weekend Second Sunday 5. In hindsight morning of Friday or Saturday was the best time to run, with the wind picking up on Sunday and the temperature dropping making fast times harder. None of which was a problem for Ellen Weir who took the ladies’ victory while Gordon warmed up for his Sunday dinner with a victory in the men’s race. THH results in the link.
John Bryant 1944-2020

While at Oxford, he competed in the Tortoises-Spartans (second team) cross-country race in 1964, 1965 and 1966, finishing 12th, 14th and 4th and being … Read more
Virtual Second Sunday 5
32 Thames men and ladies ran our Easter virtual Second Sunday 5. Ellen Weir produced the performance of the weekend with an amazing 31.41 while the allure of pancakes at the end powered Nic Gould to the fastest time. Jam, scones and clotted cream was the best cake eaten, though Gordon Pearce will advise eating these after the run – not before. Click for full THH results

With events understandably cancelled far and wide, Thames came together virtually this weekend to complete a 5km time trial. With all racing individually across Saturday and Sunday, wind conditions and finding your flattest local course were key. Keeping 2m from passersby was also of course a challenge for those of us in busier areas. However … Read more
