European Masters Indoor Championships, Madrid - 19/3/18

In the V50 3000m, Ben Reynolds was 4th in 9:28.77. In the ladies' V60 1500m, Anna Garnier was 1st in 5.49.21. Anna was also second in the ladies' V60 cross-country (as well as being part of the winning GB team). Michael Johnson was 5th in the men's V75 cross-country (and also part of the winning GB team).
Michael reports on the ladies' V60 1500m:
"The Spanish opponent leapt out of the starting blocks and over four laps or so opened up a 40m lead. Anna carried on with her race plan, closely followed by the GB 2nd string Alison Bourgeois, and by the end of the 4th lap had stabilised the lead. The 5th was spent reining in the Spaniard and midway on the 6th they had nearly caught her up. Anna then reacted to a challenge by Alison and with 300m to go overtook the Spanish lady and went for it in a manner which left Alison in her wake. A textbook run."
Of the cross-country event, Anna reports:
"There was an icy, bitter wind of 35 knots which blew against us as we ran up a very testing hill only 200m into the race. We had to tackle this three times. We were kept at least 25 minutes at the start. Any amount of warm-up went quickly up the chimney so to speak. My British team member who was pinned to me said that my legs went purple the further we ran. Luckily I held my own and finished a few seconds in front of her - our third scoring member finished 6th which was enough to win the team gold medal. GB and NI finished 2nd only to Spain in the medal table (beating Germany) so we were over the moon."
