Trans Gran Canaria Marathon, Agaete - 25/2/18

Matt Lynas finished 25th (1st V50) in 3:29. Matt writes:
ďAn enjoyable trail race with c.1000m of positive climb and c.2500m down. The race was postponed by a day due to bad weather which meant stretches of the course were more like a UK cross country course than the sandy paths ones expects here - probably explains why I seemed to pass lots of local on the slippery downhill stretches!Ē

National Cross-Country Championships, Parliament Hill - 24/2/18

The club cross country season reached its pinnacle with the National Championships and it did not disappoint. The huge fields and thundering uphill starts were a sight to behold, it was a great day for runners and spectators and a successful one for Thames.
The Ladies team achieved a fantastic 9th place led home by Bethanie Murray in 49th with Lauren Major 72nd, Ruby Woolfe 74th and Ruth Wallace 99th. They were well supported by Victoria Barthelmess in 102nd, Liz Stavreski 187th, Jess Davies 416th and Vikki Filsell 419th. Well done also to Katy Hedgethorne who came 38th running for her first claim club.
The Men did not quite make the top ten but we were still a very encouraging 13th with Josh Carr leading the way in 70th, Paddy Roddy 83rd, James Hoad 113th, James McMullan 123rd, Martin Shore 224th and Ben Reynolds 236th. There were also good runs from Gordon Pearce in 244th, James Meiklejohn 370th, Andy Weir 376th, Richard Ollington 496th, James Chettle 511th, Charles Morris 548th, Tom Greenwood 574th, Nick Altmann 649th, Richard Hewitt 684th, Anthony Doolittle 841st, Iain Sheridan 1038th, Rory Spicer 1166th, Olly Russell 1223rd and Alun Johns 1869th. 28 Saltires ran in total which was a brilliant turnout and our combined total position for the Ladies and Men (22) was lower than any other Surrey League club and in the top ten for all clubs. A fitting achievement in our 150th anniversary year.
