150th Season Paperchase - 29/9/17
An action packed weekend of Thames activity kicked off with the club photo and Paperchase last Saturday. This was the first of our series of events for the 150th anniversary. There was a bumper turnout (approximately 70 for the photo and 50+ for the paperchase).
From the perspective of a Hare, it was great to see the contingent of hounds following our trail. Myself and Andy got quite a shock at the Windmill when our conversation with the photographer was interrupted by some hounds bearing down on us, it took half a mile before Andy slowed down enough for me to catch up. The pack broke up a little throughout the chase and shortly before the finish it seemed as though there were white topped figures charging through the trees in all directions which was a sight to behold. The Hares scraped home just before the hounds burst onto the final field and well done to Nic Gould who was first to complete the full trail. Thanks go to my fellow Hounds Andy Weir and Nick Altmann and again to Andy for designing such an ingenious course which kept everyone guessing and visited all the ponds on the Common/Heath. Thanks also to Chris, Maureen, Carol and Anna for the cakes and sandwiches, to Mike the Huntsman, to Liz Stavreski and Paul Newby the Whips, to Jeremy Denny for producing the booklet and developing the idea for the event and to David Symons for taking the photo.
