London Marathon - 24/4/16

Seventeen Thames athletes tested themselves against the course and came home to say: “we won”. Each with a race story to tell. Ed Catmur tested out a new marathon reps session, running Boston on 18th April in 3hr 33m 31s and London 6 days later in 3h 31m 50s. James Chettle set off hard and held on through the exhaustion to knock a fabulous 6 mins off his pb to record 2h 30m 44s.
Ilona Kriauzaite won the bravery award of the day, injuring an ankle at mile 8 but nevertheless hobbling around the entire course. Jamie Darling and Lucy Birchenough recorded fine debuts. Jamie laid down an excellent 2hr 50m 51s and Lucy, accompanied by Gordon Pearce, smashed the 5hr barrier to run 4hr 58m 05s. Andrea Holt overcame a 17 day lay-off with injury in late March to run a fine 3hrs 11m 41s. Sarah Hazel was leading Thames lady of the day running a new pb of 2hr57m16s to finish 53rd.
Andrew Lawrence, running in the new Morpeth strip of a banana costume, looks to have set a new Guinness World Record as the fastest ever fruit over the marathon finishing in 2hrs 47m 41s. Chris Finill, in the colours of Harrow AC, maintained his fine ever-present record at London finishing 14th in the V55 category in 2hrs 56m 05s. Jerry Watson was a superb 10th in the same category in 2hrs 53m 25s. Bruce Blackshaw topped our V50 category in 4hrs 40m 05s. Matt Lynas won the battle of the V45s finishing 19th in the category in 2hrs 39m 08s, pipping David Symons who charged through to 26th in 2hrs 42m 08s.
Toby Pearson showed a grand return to form running his fastest marathon since 2010 with 2hrs 42m 51s. Nic Gould overcame a long lay-off from bad winter colds to run an excellent 2hrs 35m 23s from minimal training. Finally, Matt Jones set a new pb in running 2hrs 28m 35s for 53rd.

Junior parkrun Weekly Roundup - 18/4/16

Four Thames juniors contested the Wimbledon Park junior run. Seb Cockerell was first in, finishing 6th in 9m04s. He was closely followed by Robert Weir in 8th in 9m14s, Rupert Ferguson in 13th in 10m03s and Imogen Cockerell (9th girl) in 10m58s.


Boston Marathon - 18/4/16

Frank Dudbridge finished in 3:27:18. Only a few minutes behind him (in 8,741st) was Ed Catmur in 3:33:31.

Second claimer Howard Bristow ran an excellent 1hr 09m 34s for 16th whilst V60 Fred Croft finished 10,852nd in 3hr 25m 29s, all the more impressive because he had raced the Richmond Park Run a day earlier in 43m 31s.


Dorney Lake 20-mile Race - 3/4/16

Jamie Darling raced the Dorney Lake 20 mile pre-London event and finished in a solid 2hrs 06m 07s.
